The project is placed in a quality landscape context, characterized by a marked slope and by the presence, on its higher part, of the Welschnofen village. The project is conceived through slightly staggered volumes of different materials in order to minimize the huge volume of the project and to shape a sequence of terraces. Therefore, the new sports center is integrated within the terrain itself thanks to its terraces made with natural stone, the building becomes part of the built cultural landscape. The design concept intends to continue the steps of the landscape and its gradations, with the attempt to becomes part of the built cultural landscape.
On the top of the stone podium, which recalls mountain terraces and defines the ground floor, there is a simple concrete volume, colored with light brown pigments, which recedes a few meters from the lower floor, keeping the alignment to it. The first floor is the main access to the new sports center and is composed by two solid volumes, which contain the technical areas of the kitchen and the changing rooms for the athletes, generating a communal space in between with the restaurant and the foyer. This level therefore has a double view, on one side towards the swimming pools, on the opposite side towards the hockey field and the village of Welschnofen. In this way, from the town, the new building is perceived as a single-story volume facing the village itself, integrated within the grass slope through a flat green roof.

L’edificio si inserisce in un contesto paesaggistico di pregio, caratterizzato da un marcato dislivello del terreno e dalla presenza a monte del paese di Nova Levante. Il progetto si realizza attraverso volumi leggermente sfalsati di materiali diversi in modo da scomporre la grande massa del progetto articolando una successione di terrazzamenti. Il nuovo centro sportivo è un’evoluzione del terreno stesso. Con le sue terrazze e i muri in pietra naturale, l’edificio diventa parte del paesaggio culturale costruito. L’idea di base nel design è quella di continuare le balze e le gradazioni, nonché i muri di pietra naturale esistenti. Sopra un tipico muro di pietra, che evoca i muri in pietra dei terrazzamenti di montagna e definisce il piano terra, è posto un volume in cemento colorato con pigmenti marrone chiaro, che si arretra di alcuni metri rispetto al piano inferiore e corre parallelamente ad esso. Il primo piano è l’accesso al nuovo centro sportivo e si compone di due volumi ciechi, che contengono i locali di servizio della cucina e gli spogliatoi per gli atleti, e di uno spazio passante occupato dal ristorante e dal foyer. L’ultimo piano ha quindi un doppio affaccio, da una parte sulle piscine e dall’altra verso il campo di hockey e il paese di Nova Levante. In questo modo dalla collina in alto il progetto si presenta come un volume di un solo piano affacciato verso il paese, integrandosi all’interno del pendio in erba attraverso una copertura verde.
